About the South Carolina Assembly
A living assembly of South Carolinians working together to restore responsible self-government, strengthen our communities, and preserve liberty for generations to come.
Discover Our Purpose ↓Self-Government Begins With the People
The South Carolina Assembly is a living body of South Carolinians committed to the practice of responsible self-government. It brings people together to learn, deliberate, organize, and carry out the work necessary to strengthen their communities and preserve liberty for future generations.
The Assembly is rooted in a simple principle: government is not something distant from the people. Its legitimate authority begins with the people, and its proper purpose is to protect their rights, serve the public good, and remain accountable to those from whom that authority is derived.
From the mountains to the sea, members contribute their experience, judgment, and practical skills through the Four Pillars, standing committees, public meetings, education, recordkeeping, and service. Participation is voluntary, but the responsibility is real: a free people must be willing to understand self-government and take part in it.

To Restore the Habit of Self-Government
The purpose of the South Carolina Assembly is to bring government back within reach of the people by restoring the knowledge, participation, and public responsibility upon which genuine self-government depends.
We provide a lawful, peaceful, and organized forum in which South Carolinians can learn together, deliberate openly, preserve the public record, and carry out the practical work of serving their communities. Liberty survives only when the people understand it, exercise it, and accept responsibility for its preservation.
Learn. Organize. Serve.
Our mission is to equip South Carolinians with the knowledge, organization, and practical means to participate meaningfully in self-government and to serve their communities with integrity.
Recover Civic Knowledge
Study the principles, history, rights, and responsibilities that make self-government possible, then make that knowledge accessible to every South Carolinian who wishes to take part.
Build Accountable Structures
Maintain open assemblies, active committees, accurate records, and clear processes through which the people can deliberate, decide, and work together responsibly.
Put Principle Into Practice
Turn knowledge and organization into useful service—strengthening local communities, protecting the public record, and preserving liberty for those who come after us.
